Warm weather is upon us and can be potentially hazardous as Missouri typically experiences periods of extreme heat during the summer. It is important to be prepared!
As a friendly reminder, the interactive map of cooling center sites in Missouri, is accessible to the public on the department’s website. It is mobile friendly and searchable by county. On the map, each cooling center site indicates their address, phone number, hours of operation, whether the site is ADA accessible and if transportation is provided to the site.
This interactive map is a collaborative effort between DHSS and United Way 2-1-1 and is updated in real time as the most accurate and up to date information regarding cooling centers is received from our state-wide partners. If you have knowledge of a cooling center in your area that is not represented on the map, please reach out me or provide the site coordinator with my contact information. Alternatively, you can provide this information to United Way 2-1-1 of St. Louis. It is important to remember that the extreme heat can affect everyone, but can be especially dangerous to small children, the elderly and the chronically ill. Cooling centers provide a cool, safe place for people to go during warm weather. More resources can be found on our Hyperthermia webpage.
