Did you know 1 in 6 seniors in our area struggles with food insecurity? Your donation to the Aging Ahead Foundation will support delivery of Meals on Wheels to home-bound older adults.
Aging Ahead has been dedicated to serving adults over 60 years of age in the greater St. Louis area for over 45 years. Our 21 senior centers serve hot noontime meals 5 days per week to approximately 1,000 older adults each day, and our Meals on Wheels program delivers 2,700 daily meals to home-bound seniors, 52 weeks per year. In addition, Aging Ahead provides many other programs and services, including general socialization, wellness programs, educational opportunities , adult day care, caregiver support, veterans’ programs, and more. A missing piece to serving the older adults residing in our service area had been a senior center with a kitchen to serve North St. Louis County region. But no longer!
As we have shared before through personal correspondents and the newsletter, Aging Ahead has partnered with the City of Ferguson to create a new senior center with a central kitchen in Ferguson’s existing community center. This provides North County residents access to resources in their neighborhood. The central kitchen provides an appropriate kitchen faculty for Aging Ahead to prepare hot noontime meals for Ferguson center participants; it has the potential to be a cooking site for home-delivered meals provided to the home-bound throughout North County. Renovations required to create the central kitchen came at a cost of $120,000.
Aging Ahead was able to complete renovations so that the center in this under-served area could open. Now Aging Ahead seeks your help so that it can reimburse the funds borrowed from it servers. Some of the cost has been covered by grants from Wells Fargo Foundation, which funded the center’s commercial oven, cash gifts from AT &T and many individual donors. A grant from the Walmart Foundation funded a new hot/cold food delivery truck.
Help is still needed to cover the remaining costs. We ask that you consider making a gift to the Ferguson Project. An Added Bonus: Business owners, you could reduce your Missouri state taxes. By designating your gift to this project, you will be eligible for a 50% Missouri credit. Eligible Donors: Business only- All corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and individuals who operate a farm, have rental property or have royalty income are also eligible. Aging Ahead Foundation must receive your donation by March 30th, 2019 or until all credits have been claimed. Minimum donation amount is $500. Income tax savings will depend on individual tax status and will range from between 50% to 93% of the amount of donation.
