Aging Ahead supports all people on their aging journey, regardless of what that journey looks like. Individuals diagnosed with Down syndrome are living longer, fuller lives than ever before. Their aging journey comes with its own unique challenges.
For example,
- Alzheimer’s disease,
- hearing loss, and
- arthritis are common conditions as anyone ages, but those with Down syndrome can be at an increased risk.
The Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis (DSAGSL) is a local organization that provides individual and family support, education, public awareness and advocacy to people with Down syndrome. They recognize the ever-growing needs of this population as they age, and have dedicated Silver Steps programming to support individuals and their families.
The Silver Steps Support Group meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at the DSAGSL office. The group is a way for caregivers of adults with Down syndrome to connect, share resources, and support each other.
DSAGSL also partners with the Wellness Center for Adults with Down Syndrome to hold several workshops per year. Speakers present on topics relevant to aging adults with Down syndrome and their caregivers such as health, resources, and benefits.
Currently, DSAGSL is conducting a needs assessment survey to get an idea of what services may be lacking to support the aging Down syndrome community. Whether you are already involved with DSAGSL or not, your input is welcome. The survey can be completed here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/AgingA .
DSAGSL is located at: 8531 Page Avenue Suite 120, St. Louis, MO 63114.
