The STAR Program utilizes volunteers to take eligible riders to many of their medical appointments. Rides are available to appointments in St. Charles and St. Louis Counties, but eligible riders must reside within St. Charles County.
All rides are based on the availability of a volunteer and due to scheduling and demand, we do ask for 2 weeks’ notice if at all possible.
There is no fee for rides through STAR but , as with all Aging Ahead Programs, tax deductible donations are always welcome. The suggested donation for a round-trip ride through STAR is $5 and donations are mailed into the office, not given to volunteers.
Volunteers are offered mileage reimbursed to cover gas and wear & tear on their vehicle, but they are volunteering their time. This is a flexible volunteer opportunity, perfect for those who are retired or someone with non-traditional work hours.
Aging Ahead contracts with OATS, Inc. to provide para-transit for those who require specialized vehicles to be transported to their medical appointments.
Eligibility Requirements of Riders:
- Must be age 60 or older
- Must reside in an independent living situation within St. Charles County
- Must be a non-driver or lack access to a vehicle
- Must be ambulatory (STAR does not have wheelchair accessible vehicles)
Eligibility Requirements of Volunteers:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a reliable, legally licensed, and insured vehicle
- Must be available weekday hours
To reach the STAR Coordinator to find out if someone is eligible to become a rider, or to become a volunteer with STAR, please call (636) 978-3306.
The STAR Program is funded in part by Aging Ahead, a non-for-profit organization through a Community Development Block Grant through the City of O’Fallon. Rides are provided to eligible seniors on a voluntary donation basis.

The STAR Program is not available due to the Pandemic. You should call Aging Ahead’s St. Charles COS staff (636-579-0555 for St. Charles County residents) to get registered for our transportation services via EMT.

Is this program active again post the pandemic? I know it was on hold during COVID restrictions.
