Make a resolution to impact a life by helping to fight against healthcare fraud. Many older adults are scammed by people who have earned their trust. By informing people of current scams and educating them how to protect themselves, they are less likely to become a victim.
SMP volunteers may serve Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers in several ways, such as:
Distributing information: Distribute SMP information materials to sites and events; may include presenting prepared copy or performing scripted activities for small groups.
Staffing exhibits: Staff information exhibits at events such as health fairs; may also provide general information about SMP to the public and answer basic questions.
Presenting to groups: Give presentations on SMP topics to small and large groups; may interact with the audience by answering questions and through discussion.
Counseling individuals: Have direct conversations with beneficiaries about their individual situations; may include review of personal information such as Medicare Summary Notices, billing statements, and other related financial and health documents
You don’t have to be a healthcare expert to volunteer, you just need time. Training will be provided free of charge. Contact Missouri SMP to become a volunteer at www.missourismp.org or call 888-515-6565.
