World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is commemorated every June 15th to provide an opportunity for communities to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older adults. WEAAD reminds us that elder abuse has implications for all of us. It is a call to action for individuals, organizations, and communities to learn how to identify, address, and prevent elder abuse so we can all do our part to support everyone as they age.

Older people are mistreated more often than we think due to the lack of supports for older people in our communities. It doesn’t have to be this way. Get involved in creating a stronger society that safeguards our communities and prevents abuse.

Eldercare Locator The Eldercare Locator is a nationwide service that connects older Americans and their caregivers with trustworthy local support resources. Since 1991, the Eldercare Locator has been linking those who need assistance with state and local agencies on aging, as well as community-based organizations that serve older adults and their caregivers. Whether help is needed with services such as meals, home care or transportation, or a caregiver needs training and education or a well-deserved break from caregiving responsibilities, the Eldercare Locator is there to point that person in the right direction.

Didn’t have purple, wore plum. Didn’t walk at Schroeder Park, but did some walking Sunday. June 6th and the weather was fantastic to just be outside. Here’s hoping Sunday June 15ths weather is a nice walk day. To all, contact your legislators about this important matter. Abuse is abuse, old or young and we aint getting any younger 🙂
