Beware of fraudulent COVID-19 testing sites or at-home testing kits
The Missouri Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is advising older adults to be on the lookout for fraudulent
COVID-19 testing centers and fake at-home COVID-19 tests.
Scammers are setting up fake COVID-19 test sites to get your personal, financial, and medical
information. Scammers also are selling fake and unauthorized at-home COVID-19 test kits an effort to get your
information.
To avoid falling prey to fake test sites, research the testing site before you go. The Food and Drug
Administration has information at www.fda.gov.
When it comes to at-home test kits, make sure to purchase FDA-approved COVID-19 test kits from
legitimate providers. Each household can get four free tests shipped to them from the federal government by
visiting www.covidtests.gov and filling out a short form. Ignore offers or advertisements for COVID-19 testing
or treatments on social media sites.
If you are concerned you may have purchased a fake or unauthorized test kit or visited a fake testing site,
contact the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) at (888) 515-6565.
The Missouri Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is ready to provide you with the information you need to
PROTECT yourself from Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse; DETECT potential fraud, errors, and abuse; and
REPORT your concerns. As always, if you suspect you are the victim of Medicare fraud or abuse, call the
Missouri Senior Medicare Patrol at (888) 515-6565.
